On Saturday morning, Parramatta City Band set up in Parramatta Square for Brass in the Square. We've been working on this program for a few weeks, and we were really excited to share it with the community.
We played on the plaza outside the Peter Shergold Building (Western Sydney University). It's a great place to play. The sound carries right across the Square, and people can stop for one song or stay for the whole set.
A crowd on the steps
As the morning went on, the steps and benches filled up with passers-by and families with prams stopping to listen. Thank you to everyone who sat down with us for a while. It means a lot to play for people right in the middle of our city.
What we played
The program included something from The Lion King (yes, the band sang too), a mellow arrangement of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah, and Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy (Don Raye & Hughie Prince).
One audience member shared the morning on Instagram, and we loved reading it:

Musical Director Luke Bradbery was pleased with the band's sound and loved bringing the music out to the people of Parramatta.

Got an old instrument in the cupboard, or always wanted to give brass a go? Lennox Brass is the bridge into the band, rehearsing Thursdays 6–7pm. The main band rehearses Thursdays 7:30–10pm. Both meet at Harry Todd Band Hall, Jubilee Lane, Parramatta.
